Waterspouts – Long Key, FL – July 16, 2008

Several intense waterspouts developed over the waters of Florida Bay just north of Long Key, Florida (in the middle Florida Keys) on the afternoon of July 16, 2008. One of the more intense spouts moved onshore very near my location, with the spray ring passing directly over a dock while pushing a large wave (like a mini storm surge) alongside it. The funnel quickly dissipated once it moved inland.

  1. I have to say that this footage right here is the best waterspout footage that I have ever seen. It was great watching it on dvd too with the spray ring circulating in.

  2. you do have a lot of good vid’s of water spouts .

and I hope you can find a “medium~small” one , one day . and get a vid from the inside ( so long as you stay safe)

well good luck ,,, I’ll subscribe now so I can be among the first to see . ,,, ho , already am

  3. Lawman449: a HERO ?? come on now,let’s not exagerate… sure,his clips are amazing,but he can’t compare to Batman or Richard the Lionheart ;)

  4. I have watched the DVD you gave me of this so many times – specifically the part where the wave that follows the spout comes ashore. The wave seems to grow and get bigger as the water becomes shallower, just like storm surge. Great stuff!

  5. Oh your abb-so-lute-ly right about thatttt. No no no no no no no! Now that’s one hell of a video.

  6. Wow! Great capture Jim! That was a very nice waterspout. I think it is cool that you can see through the waterspout, and that the funnel is visible, but the middle is invisible, and the spray kicking up over the water. Very cool I have to say.

  7. UNBELIEVABLE! That wave coming onshore with the spray ring is incredible! This is definitely some of the best close-up waterspout footage I’ve seen.

  8. Amazing Thanks for the Dvd Btw.
I hope Nat’Geo or Discovery picks this up, and puts it on bluray, etc
